Fire fighting and Emergency Medical Support Training
Rea Valley Fire Protection District Firefighters are some of the most well trained and dedicated in our county. The following describes the rigorous training that each and every firefighter must have.
All training for our volunteers is managed through the Arkansas Fire Training Academy and is free of charge.
The AR Fire Training Academy serves as a resource for the AR Fire Service and related organizations by providing professional education and training in firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical services. This education and training employs the practices and standards established by state and national authorities as well as state-of-the-art techniques of fire service management through equipment and safety training.
The AR Fire Training Academy is accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NPQS or Pro-Board) to certify personnel to the Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Driver/Operator, Hazardous Materials-Awareness, Hazardous Materials-Operations, Instructor I and Fire Officer I & II levels. It is also accredited by the AR Department of Health to certify personnel to the Emergency Medical Technician Basic Level.
Arkansas state law reguires the following training for all volunteer fire departments. New volunteers are required to take three intial classess within the first year of service.
Introduction to Firefighting = twelve (12) hour class
Personal Protective Equipment = sixteen (16) hour class
Wildland Fire Suppression = eight (8) hour class
The following training schedule is the fire departments and the Arkansas State Mandated requirements for volunteer fighters. All of the classes shall be completed at the earliest available time, as approved by the Fire Chief.

Note: At the completion of the above classes a firefighter will receive an Advance Fire Firefighter Certificate and Patch from the Arkansas Fire Academy. In Addition, the firefighter may elect to take the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (I.F.S.A.C.) test for FIREFIGHTER 1 or FIREFIGHTER II Certification. Note: This is a national recognized accreditation for firefighters.

Note: Volunteer are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of the Annual Scheduled Training Classes. Volunteers who fall below 50% attendance may be dismissed without notice.
